RIKEN team develops earthworm pump” for microfluidics”

Groups around Yo TANAKA at RIKEN and Norihiro KAMAMICHI at at Tokyo Denki University have developed a micromachined pump chamber of 3 mm with filled with earthworm muscle and have achieved a flow rate of 5 microliters/minute. The prototype pump was driven by electric stimulation but will be operated by ATP in the future
