Using mouse ES cells, the group of Hitoshi NIWA at RIKEN found that ES cells during division express Zscan4 protein, a protein involved in the extension of telomers. Thus telomer shortening and aging of ES cells during cultivation is prevented. RIKEN news release, March 18, 2016
