Kyoto University group delivers anticancer prodrug delivery system based on improved biocompatible polymers.

Into a biocompatible amphiphilic polymer from oligosaccharides and polypropylene glycol mixed with phospholipids, ß-galactosidase was incorporated which could activate an antitumor prodrug galactoside. When liposomes made up from this nano system were added in combination with doxorubicin galactoside, doxorubicin was shown to accumulate locally in the tumors of tumor-bearing mice, reducing side-effects of the cell poison.
