Tokyo Institute of Technology develops technology to enhance amount and composition of triacylglycerides in marine Nannochloropsis algae

By expressing a phosphorus deficiency response promoter from the green algae Chlamydomonas reinhardtii in the marine algae Nannochloropsis and by other genetic modifications, strains were obtained which produced much higher quantities of TAGs and which had different compositions of the oil, e. g., a high oleic acid content.
