Yamaguchi University’s Institute for Cell Design and Medical Science is focused on cell and gene therapy for both humans and companion animals.

The research structure  consists of
  • advanced cell therapy research that is responsible for the production of modified cells such as chimeric antigen receptor T cells (CAR-T), the development of automatic culture technology, and the training of human resources involved in cell culture;
  • advanced genome editing therapy, which designs cells and genes using domestic genome editing techlogy to understand diseases and develop treatments.
  • medical and veterinary translational clinical research which utilizes the university’s clinical experience in veterinary medicine to develop gene therapy and regenerative medicine for companion animals such as dogs and cats, and
  • the Systems Medical Information Research Division which uses artificial intelligence and bioinformatics to analyze research data obtained from the other divisions.
