On September 1, 2022, CureApp launched the “CureApp HT Hypertension Treatment Assistance App”, an application to assist in the treatment of hypertension. The six-month program is priced at 2,910 yen for the first month for patients who pay 30% of the total cost, and 2,490 yen per month for the following five months. In addition, each medical institution will charge a consultation fee for the first visit and follow-up visits.

CureApp HT consists of an app for patients to use (patient app) and an app for doctors to check patient data (doctor app). The patient application can be used by entering the prescription code issued by the physician. The post-prescription process is as follows. First, the patient enters information such as daily blood pressure and diet into the patient app. Based on this information, an algorithm in the app selects appropriate advice to encourage the patient to change his/her behavior, which is then displayed in the app. The physician can use the app to check the patient’s blood pressure and lifestyle record for medical treatment. Blood pressure is recorded either by automatic input from a blood pressure monitor linked via Bluetooth (short-range wireless communication) or by manual input.

Japan’s Central Social Insurance Medical Council (Chuikyo) of the Ministry of Health, Labor, and Welfare approved insurance coverage for CureApp HT. According to data from the Chuikyo, the MHLW estimates that the number of patients using the application is approximately 70,000.
