RIKEN-led team succeeds to breed potato low in solanine through genome editing

In a joint study between RIKEN, Kirin Research Center and several university groups, a potato variety was obtained through genome editing using TALEN technology which showed only 10 % of steroid glycoalkaloids (SGA) of the starting plant, by suppression of the SSR-2 gene involved in SGA biosynthesis.
