Marine Genomics Unit of Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology decodes genome of coral symbiont

The OIST group, which in 2011 had decoded the 420 Mb genome of the coral Agropora digitiferia, has now decoded the large 1, 5 Mb genome of one of the coral’s symbionts, Symbiodinium minutum, an algae. This research is believed to understand symbiotic releationships in coral reefs and their reaction to environmental change.
