University of Tokyo group produces hematopoietic stem cells from human iPS cells

The team of Professor Hiromitsu NAKAUCHI at Tokyo University’s Institute of Medical Science achieved the In vitro generation of hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) from induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), opening a potential to provide novel therapeutic approaches for replacing bone marrow (BM) transplantation without rejection or graft versus host disease. When the HSCs were transplanteid into X-SCID mice, immunodeficiency of the mice was reverted.
