Ajinomoto produces isoprene (C5H8) by fermentation starting from a C6 natural compound, and Bridgestone prepares polyisoprene from bio-isoprene using polymerization catalyst technology. Both companies performed test production, evaluated the rubber quality, and applied for a joint patent.
Examination for industrialization is scheduled for June, 2013, in order to judge the continuation of joint development.
