Hydroxynitril lyase from millipede has higher stability and activity compared to plant enzyme

Some millipeds use hydroxynitril lyase to protect themselves from predators by producing HCN. The enzyme involved was purified by the ERATO Asano project team in Toyama and shown to be up to 200 times more active than this type of enzyme from plants and much more stable against pH and temperature changes. It is now being investigated for commercial applications.
