Yakult introduces a Bifidobacterium breve-based concept against “winter dry skin”

The concept is based on experiments using a drink composed of B. breve and galacto-oligosaccharide. Experiments were done with 39 women aged 20 – 70, and moisture content and cathepsin L activity in the epidermis were monitored after 4 weeks in the horny layer of the epidermis. It was shown that the moisture content of the epidermis was higher using this drink, and the effect was related to the reduction of enterobacteria producing phenolic compounds from tyrosine in the intestine (phenolics levels in blood were reduced).
