As part of the Green Innovation Fund project, NEDO will start the “Promotion of carbon recycling using CO2 as a direct raw material using bio-manufacturing technology” (total budget: 176.7 billion yen).
In this project, NEDO will focus on “sophistication of platform technology for modifying microorganisms to accelerate the development of useful microorganisms,” “development and improvement of microorganisms that can produce substances using CO2,” and “manufacturing using microorganisms that can produce substances using CO2 as raw materials.” We will conduct research and development and demonstration with the aim of realizing “development and demonstration of technology, etc.”
By 2030, technology will be developed to shorten the time per DBTL cycle and establishing technology to reduce the number of cycles and reduce costs, microorganisms that work beneficially. We will establish a technology that shortens the development period up to 1/10.
By 2030, we will develop microorganisms (commercial strains) that can produce substances at a commercial level by improving the substance production function or CO2 fixation ability by about 5 times compared to general natural strains, or already have a substance production function or CO2 By performing genome editing on microorganisms with high immobilization ability, we develop microorganisms that can use raw materials and target substances that are different from conventional ones while maintaining production functions.
By 2030, we will develop technology that will reduce the manufacturing cost of substances produced from CO2 using microorganisms to 1.2 times or less that of alternative candidate products in 2030.
