NEDO’s “Bio-Manufacturing Revolution Program” supports the development and demonstration of technologies necessary for building a biomanufacturing value chain, including the collection and conversion of unused resources into raw materials, microbial modification technologies, production, separation, purification, and processing technologies, and the systems and standardization necessary for social implementation.
Biomanufacturing is expected to become the next-generation industrial foundation and the core of Japan’s competitiveness.
So far, NEDO had selected 14 programs. Now, five additional themes have been selected:
(1) Research toward Building a Supply Chain for the Collection of Unused Resources
(2) Development and Demonstration for Converting Unused Resources into Raw Materials
(3) Demonstration of the Collection of Bioproducts, etc. as Raw Materials for Promoting Circular Biomanufacturing
In addition, grants will be provided for the development and breeding of industrial microorganisms, for manufacturing technologies, for the separation and purification of substances produced by these microorganisms, and for life-cycle assessments LCA.
The overall program runs for the period FY2022 – 2032
