Under NEDO’s biojet project, JGC Holdings Corporation, Cosmo Oil Co., Ltd., Revo International Co., Ltd., JGC Corporation, and SAFFAIRE SKY ENERGY LLC have completed the first large-scale production demonstration facility in Japan to produce SAF (sustainable aviation fuel) from waste cooking oil at the Cosmo Oil Sakai Refinery.
The purpose of this project is to build a supply chain from raw material procurement to mass production, quality control, and supply of SAF. As for raw material procurement, the challenge was to stably procure the raw material, waste edible oil, and to collect it, the consortium built cooperative relationships with many companies.
As a result of this project, a series of supply chains will be established, from procurement of raw materials to mass production and quality control of SAF, and supply to airports. It is expected that this will lead to the realization of the first large-scale domestic supply of SAF in Japan.
SAFFAIRE SKY ENERGY aims to supply approximately 30,000 kiloliters of SAF per year.
