AdvanSentinel, a joint venture between Shionogi and Shimadzu, released a sampling kit called “QuickConc Vacuum” that can recover environmental DNA in water with a high yield. It is useful for environmental DNA analysis of samples with low concentrations of environmental DNA, such as seawater. The company is also focusing on developing technology to detect bird flu outbreaks early using environmental DNA analysis.
The newly released QuickConc Vacuum consists of glass fibers that mainly adsorb environmental DNA contained in water, and a filter to collect the glass fibers with DNA adsorbed. The glass fibers are suspended in water samples collected from the location where environmental DNA is to be analyzed, and the DNA is then concentrated and collected by collecting the glass fibers and DNA through a filter.
