A consortium from Kajima, Denka and Takenaka Corporation, under a contract of NEDO, develop  CUCO® concrete manufacturing, a carbon negative concrete that emits less than zero carbon dioxide (CO2) during the concrete manufacturing process.

Fudo Tetra Co., Ltd., a joint partner of Kajima and this project, manufactures and ships carbon negative concrete at a ready-mixed concrete factory  in the city, and will ship it to the Atami Beach Line. A series of operations from pouring to demolding and carbonation curing were carried out at an outdoor manufacturing yard to manufacture the wave-dissipating block “CUCO®-SUICOM Tetrapod”. As a result, CO2 emitted during the manufacturing stage were reduced by 112% compared to tetrapods made with general concrete. In addition, Kajima’s carbonation curing technology has made the surface of CUCO Tetra less alkaline, making it more environmentally friendly and more compatible with marine life.
