A team at Tohoku University has developed a bag-type robot hand which can grasp soft and hard objects equally well. Previous bag-like robot hands were able to grasp objects of various shapes, but with sharp objects, they were damaged, broken, and there was a problem in durability. It is expected that this new design will dramatically increases the practical use of flexible robot hands at factories as well as at disaster sites.
