RIKEN team elucidates genome mutations in iPS cells

In a collaborative program with several university groups, Yoshihiro YOSHIHARA of RIKEN’s Life Science Center for Functional Genomics has elucidated the hot spots of genome mutations in induced pluripotent stem cells (iPS cells). The distribution pattern showed point mutation of low density in the regulatory regions coding for promoters and enhancers. Many other genomic mutations were shown to be benign mutations” that do not affect gene.expression. In spite of this finding, it is considered that careful evaluation of safety measures remeins important for iPS-related studies.”
