RIKEN/Tokyo University team develop ultra-thin organic solar cell which can be stretched and laundered

The super-flexible organic solar cell is based on PNTz 4 as an organic semiconductor polymer covered by parylene and utilizes a substrate film and a sealing film of only 1 micrometer thickness. It works even when bended or crushed and shows high energy conversion efficiency and high water resistance. Short-circuit current density (JSC) when irradiated with artificial sunlight (output 100 mW/cm 2) was 16.2 mA/cm2, conversion efficiency was 7.9%.
