Kyoto researchers develop less expensive support for iPS cells

Ass. Prof. Ken-Ichiro KAMEI at the Institute of Integrated Cell-Material Science (ICEMS) at Kyoto University has developed a new cloth which improves the culture of iPS cells. The < 1 mm cloth is composed of gelatin and polyglycolic acid. Industrial partner is Gunze Co., a major underwear producer. After the cells are attached to the surface, the cloths can be folded and placed in a bag containing the culture liquid. Embryonic stem cells (ES cells) can also be cultured using this cloth.
