NEC develops bioplastic which resembles Japanese lacquerware but stands a regular plastics molding process

The material is based on cellulose resins from selected grasses and trees with additives for color and light reflection. The light but hard material was co-developed in collaboration with the Kyoto Institute of Technology and Yutaro Shimode, a lacquerware artist. It displays a rich and uniquely deep and warm black, and is first intended for use in luxury cars.
