The program is based on the findings of RIKEN Center for Development Biology Group Leader Takashi Tsuji who had found that mouse hair follicle epithelial stem cells and mouse dermal papilla cells derived from the beard hair follicles combined in a droplet of collagen transplanted into nude mice developed into grown hair follicles. The procedure worked also with human stem cells. Joint research will be done until March 2018, and clinical studies might follow.
