TUAT team engineers light-induced promoter into E. coli

The groups of Koji SODE and Kazunori IKEBUKURO at Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology succeeded to functionally express a green light inducible promoter from Synechocystis sp. PCC6803 in E. coli. When an antigen43-coding gene was cloned behind this promoter, the recombinant E. coli cells aggregated when illuminated with green light, but not, when red light was used. It is expected to use this selective expression for bioprocesses.
