RIKEN team develop quantitative prediction of antibiotic resistance based on genotyping

The group of Chikara FURUSAWA at RIKEN QBiC evolved E. coli to create 44 strains each reistant to one of 11 different antibiotics. When exposed to 25 antibiotics they had never encountered before, most strains developed cross-resistance. Microarray analysis provided a linear model for predicting resistance and cross-resistance for most strains.
