Advantame is already registered and marketed in the US. The modified Asp-Phe derivative is 100 times sweeter than Aspartame, a major product of Ajinomoto, and 200fold sweeter than sucrose. MHLW’s Food Safety Committee started public hearing, and commercialization in Japan is scheduled for 2014.
