The enzyme is an ecdysteroid-inactivating enzyme ecdysteroid-22-oxidase (E22O) from the entomopathogenic fungus Nomuraea rileyi which upon injection into Bombyx mori and other insects reduces ecdysteroid titer thereby controlling insect development.
